Exercise 2.2.6

Since the zeros are \(- 1\) and \(5\), the \(x\)-intercepts are \(( - 1, 0 )\) and \(( 5, 0 )\).

The \(x\)-coordinate of the vertex is \(-\dfrac{b}{2a} = 2\), so the \(y\)-coordinate is \(f ( 2 ) = 9\).

Exercise 2.2.5

\(f ( x ) = - ( x^2 - 4 x - 5 ) = - ( x - 5 ) ( x + 1 )\), so the zeros are \(5\) and \(- 1\).
